The old well in Shanhua Jiaba Matsu Temple

The old well in Shanhua Jiaba Matsu Temple has a long history. In 2010, the well was registered as historical architecture because its bricks are laid properly into a curved shape and the structure is complete. However, the inner wall of the old well was damaged by banyans’ roots in 2012, so Shanhua Jiaba Matsu Temple reported on the situation and cooperated with the local government. What’s more, it is significant that the temple volunteered to conduct the conservation project. On Dragon Boat Festival, Thursday of last week, the temple especially held an activity to let people fetch noon water. The recovery of the old well’s function makes people recall the memories and connection with the courtyard of temples and everyday life.
