Kumamoto Castle Severely Destroyed

The devastating earthquake that happened on Apr. 16 in Chuo Ward, Kumamoto, made Kumamoto Castle severely destroyed. The official estimated that restoration of the castle may take five years or 20 years. The Nippon Foundation said it will donate 9.3 billion yen to help people in Kumamoto and Oita Prefectures. 3 billion yen of the total will be earmarked for reconstruction of the castle. Moreover, in 2008, Kumamoto Castle officially solicited funds to repair the castle, and those who donated more than ten thousand yen, could hold the rank of the lord of Kumamoto Castle for one day. This action could make “the one-day lord” experience Japanese culture in high-profile position, took people by storm. Now, people can help to restore the castle in more diverse ways.
