Ceremonial Dance

Yi-Cheng Academy’s 185th anniversary ─Ceremonial Dance and Music Honoring Confucius premiered at Tainan Cultural Center Performance Hall on Sep 12, which attracted over 1,000 audiences and brought the house down.

The Tainan Yi-Cheng Academy was founded in 1835, has been responsible for the Ceremony honoring Confucius in Tainan Confucius Temple for 185 years. The academy maintains not only the ceremonial instruments and rituals but also the traditional music called "Thirteen note".

To celebrate its 185th anniversary, Tainan Confucius Temple and TMACH collaborated on a show for the stage, including Ceremony Honoring Confucius and the "Thirteen note" concert. All the performers are members of the formal ceremony.

It is the first time the Ceremony Honoring Confucius run in the theater. The heavy rain on Saturday evening couldn't stop people from lining up for the performance. Around 1,200 people seated in the hall, feeling like they are in the Confucius Temple instead of a theater. The performance simulated the duration from midnight to early morning of the formal ceremony, showing the dark blue and dawn on the sky. Among the attractive visual effect and atmosphere, people immersed in the ritual, dance, and beautiful melody. “It felt like I was attending the real ceremony, really amazing.” “I thought it would be boring. In the end, I was touched.” said the audience.

The formal ceremony will be held in Tainan Confucius Temple on September 28, 4:00 am. All Tainan Citizens and the people around the world are welcome to join.
